Part 1

Think back to a role-playing game that you really enjoy playing. Write a 1-paragraph summary of the story of this game.

 

The game is called The Crooked Man and is actually part of a series of games. This is an indie game that was developed with David as the main character, whom the player will play as.

After David moves to a new apartment, he started encountering some malfunctions in the house. However, he quickly concluded that it was brought about by the former tenant and decides to look for him. Duke, who is the Crooked Man, starts following David everywhere while he is on a journey to find the previous tenant and tried to kill him. On his journey to find the previous tenant, who he found out is called Duke, he encountered Sissi, D and Fluffy. Sissi, D and Fluffy are actually facets of his own past life and so their background story is actually David’s own past. If David manages to come to terms with all these facets that he encountered, he would be able to arrive at the abandoned house of Duke without being killed by the Crooked Man. After going to the abandoned house, he found out that it actually belongs to Duke’s mother, who abandoned him. When looking though the belongings, David managed to find out the tenant’s real name. The Crooked Man then appeared again in front of David and after shooting him a number of times, David told him to disappear as he will not take the same path as him. After hearing those words, the Crooked Man disappears. David later entered the attic of the house and found Duke’s hanged corpse. That was when he realized that all the situations Duke put him in were in order to help him move on with his life and thus David thanked him before leaving. Duke was actually “abandoned” by his mother after she died in a hospital when Duke was a kid, leaving him with bitterness and feelings of abandonment. Years later, he decides to become a lawyer and no matter how much he tried, he never passed the final exam. The last straw for him was that his beloved girlfriend eventually abandoned him despite him loving her very much which left him very depressed. Unable to take it any longer, he left the apartment he lived in and committed suicide by hanging himself in his mother’s abandoned house. He then became a vengeful spirit some time after that. However, Duke’s spirit started to watch over David after he got back together with his girlfriend.

Part 2

Writing a game story often involves research, creativity and some ingenuity. Write a 1-paragraph summary of a game that involves both:

• An orphan, and

• A catastrophic event

 

Kyle Lincoln, was only 8 years old when he was sent to an orphanage after his parents met with an unfortunate experience when overseas. In this orphanage, he made friends with other children that was around the same age and was especially close to one named Jose White. What Kyle thought of having a peaceful life thereafter was destroyed after the orphanage was completely burned down when he was 15. Having returned from school late that day, he was the only one unharmed while the fire spread throughout the whole orphanage. Luckily, Jose was able to escape together with another child on her back just before the whole building collapsed. However, the rescued child was not so lucky as her burns were too severe and after muttering a few words, she left this world. The words muttered implied that this fire was planned by a few men and both Kyle and Jose stated that to the police, hoping that the police will help them search for the culprit. However, their hope was lost when the police concluded that it was an accident of the teacher not turning off the stove. Not believing a word the police said, Kyle and Jose decided to team up to find the men who ruined their perfect home. They decided to cut off contact until both manage to get the job that will lead them to their goal. 10 years later, they met each other in private with one as a police officer and one as underground hostess. They started working together to find clues that will lead them to the culprit that managed to escape 10 years ago. With Kyle finding clues through solving cases and trying to grab a higher position so as to access old files, while Jose using her underground connections and pulling strings to fish out for any leads that will be helpful, they both worked towards unravelling the culprits behind this incident as it seems the police are also covering up for these culprits. It progresses with the both of them meeting in secret and exchanging relevant information that will eventually lead them to the actual culprit of the incident. Soon after, in 3 years time, they were able to narrow down the suspects to a few people. However, among those was someone Kyle did not want to suspect as he looked up to her sense of justice when he was placed on certain cases that requires him to work together with her. Reality was however, not so sweet and after cornering her, it was revealed that she, Janice Violet , was indeed the true mastermind behind the incident 13 years ago. Although Janice remained on constant flee after being exposed, they managed to capture her and killed her after she owned up to her crimes. In spit of this, they felt that something was missing and after recalling what Janice said when she was owning up, it appears that she actually received orders to burn down the orphanage from the higher ups in the police force. Kyle and Jose continued in their line of work as they started purging the police force of its corruption until they manage to find the one who issued the order for that incident. It only took them another 2 years to find out who the true perpetrator is and it turns out to be the General of the whole police force and without wasting any more time, Kyle and Jose quickly narrowed down on him and cornered him to speak the truth. After getting into a heated fight with him, they managed to kill him even though they suffered a few minor injuries. After they left the location where they carried out the killing, they were spotted by a group of robbers. With both of them wearing the police uniform, they were seen as one and were shot dead by the robbers without hesitation. Revenge is never the answer.

Develop the character design for the orphan in your game story.

He is a thin and tall young man who is around 170 cm. His hair is black in color with a bit of curls which makes the hair looks a little messy. He looks like neither a very reliable police officer nor a very lacking officer. His eyes are dark black in color which reflects the dark side of himself. His eyes seem full of determination and resolve. He wears a suit which is purely white in color with a black tie and black pants. He wears  a black sports shoes. He portrays himself as an absent-minded and cheerful person while being nice to many others. In his police work, he tends to be looked down upon but yet, taken note by many superiors as he has a high record of cases which he solved. Due to the incident of his past, he tends to not trust people easily and takes a while before warming up to them. When encountering an offender, he always has a strong sense of justice and would make sure the criminal gets what he deserves. The only downside of this is that he lacks any compassion for criminals and does not hesitate to harm the criminals just to capture them.
