Sunshine Welfare Action Mission

The Sunshine Welfare Action Mission is a nursing home that provides residential nursing care facilities for the aged and the aged sick. The services provided are medical, nursing care and rehabilitation through physio and occupational therapy in a homely environment. Interaction among the elderly is also encouraged through games and calisthenic exercises to keep them active. Family involvement is also encouraged and crucial for the morale of the residents and this nursing home provides many opportunities for building these ties through Family Days and Birthday Celebrations.

For one of our school modules, FP2, we were tasked to take care of an elderly that will be assigned to us and we will be working in pairs. We were assigned to the Sunshine Welfare Action Mission nursing home to carry out our duties. My pair is in charge of an elderly from the dementia group and I actually learnt quite a few interesting facts about dementia states and also what the nurses has done to try to cure it. There were even activities there which aid in ensuring that the elderly's dementia did not get worse but instead is making it better. Although this was a task given to us by our teachers, my mindset changed to wanting to provide him with our upmost care and treating it as a good experience while contributing to the community without thinking of it as a drag, instead of thinking that it is something I am being forced to do and is an "assignment / homework" I have to accomplish to get good grades.
